A major concern for a large number of Americans would be to lose weight. As people’s lives have grown more sedentary, with the typical occupation involving sitting in front of a computer screen up to nine hours a day, it’s normal for people to actively plan a schedule that would allow them to lose the weight and the inches that a lifestyle of sitting and eating take out food has gradually accumulated.
If you yourself are interested to lose 10 or to lose 20 pounds in one month, what are the activities that you could do? Be encouraged by the fact that you wouldn’t have to equate losing weight with hard, demanding labor (like using a torque wrench). All it takes would be consistency and discipline.
- One of the very first things you can do is to buy your own weighing scale – it could be a floor scale or a digital scale. The point here is to make it a habit to check your weight so that you’re aware of how much you still need to lose. It’s also good to check your inches (on your waist and hips, in particular) using a tape measure. Do start being more conscious of your weight before you need to use a heavy duty, industrial shipping scale!
- Another habit that you can easily start would be to account for every item of food that you put in your mouth. By writing down everything you eat daily, you would begin to be more conscious of your eating habits; seeing your food intake in black and white would also develop in you the ability to think twice before you add a second serving to your baked mac.
- You could opt to purchase a calorie counting scale, which would help you determine the amount of calories for every type of food you eat.
- If you live alone, it’s a good idea to monitor the amount and types of food available in your home. Keep chips and snack food to a minimum, and keep a good selection of fruits available. More often than not, a person experiences hunger pangs not because he is actually hungry but because he just wants something to munch on; make sure that the things you do munch on would be food that your body would welcome – that is, healthful food.
- You could also try out the healthy zone diet, which promotes moderation instead of abstinence. This would help you avoid the common dieters’ tendencies to go on a binge because of the onset of the feelings of deprivation – this could be the start of an unhealthy cycle of dieting, binging, then dieting again. As long as you keep your food intake moderate, then your body would gradually shed off the pounds.
- Another tip would be to avoid beverages (yes, that means soda and even sweetened fruit juices) that give you lots of empty calories – just one glass of soda would mean 3 tablespoons of sugar more than the recommended daily intake! The best thing to do would be to stick to drinking water – which is actually what our body is truly craving in the first place. Another plus to drinking water would be this: many times, what we perceive to be hunger is in fact thirst, so whenever you think you’re hungry, try drinking about 2 glasses of water first. Wait for about ten minutes; if you’re still hungry then chances are your body really does need solid food.
Remember, some sacrifice would be involved specially during the first few weeks of this new, healthier lifestyle. Just remember that eating moderately and healthfully, plus having enough rest and exercise, would enable you to lose those pounds that you just want to give up. And the healthier you would certainly be a priceless thing – worth more than gold or copper.
