It's a widely known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It's what keeps you going throughout the morning, and stops you from snacking on unhealthy stuff. Plus, eating a large meal early in the day jumpstarts your metabolism, which will help you to burn more calories throughout the day. Who knew that eating a good breakfast could actually help you to lose weight? Here's how you can make a healthy breakfast to keep you satisfied all morning.
Step 1:

Choose a low-fat hot cereal. A healthy breakfast is one that's going to take a while to digest. Sugary cold cereals do nothing to keep you full. Instead, opt for some oatmeal (sugar-free). Add some flavor with some reduced-calorie syrup if you must, or try cooking your oatmeal in apple juice instead of water. (You'll love this trick!) Some fresh fruit like blueberries or peaches mixed into your oatmeal is the perfect start to your day.

Step 2:

Have a few eggs. Eggs are a staple food in anyone's diet, especially when it comes to breakfast food. They're high in protein and can be prepared just about any way you like them. Plus, they contain lots of vitamins B and K as well as folic acid, all of which are great for your health. Eggs are healthiest when eaten poached or boiled, but scrambled eggs, omelets, and even sunny-side up eggs will keep you feeling full longer. (Just watch the side dishes - bacon should be replaced with a lean ham or turkey bacon if you want to keep your breakfast healthy).

Step 3:

Consider a bran muffin. Not all muffins are made equal. There are certainly some muffins that are healthier than others. For breakfast, you want a muffin filled with wholesome ingredients that will last all morning. A bran muffin is a great healthy breakfast (as long as it's not dripping in butter!) but any muffin made with whole wheat flour and little sugar is a healthy breakfast option. Pair a muffin with some fresh fruit and a glass of milk, and you've got a healthy breakfast that is going to last much longer than any bowl of sugary cereal.

Step 4:

Healthy cereals are another great breakfast option. While there are many unhealthy cereals available, there are just as many healthy cereal options too. Look for cereals that are made from 100% whole grains. Then look on the side of the box where the ingredients are listed. A healthy breakfast cereal has no more than 5 grams of sugar per serving. If you can, select a breakfast cereal with at least 4 grams of fiber per serving too. Bran Flakes are a very healthy breakfast, as well as Kashi GoLean. As long as the sugar and fiber content are on track, your cereal is a great breakfast option.

Step 5:

Have some low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese. Like eggs, dairy products have a filling effect when eaten for breakfast. So get yourself some low-fat or fat-free yogurt. And if you can, buy the variety that is made with as little sugar as possible. (The more fruit, the better!) Cottage cheese is also full of protein. Mix it with some sugar-free applesauce and add a bit of fresh fruit. And you've got yourself a healthy breakfast that shouldn't leave you tempted to visit the vending machine at all.
