How To Naturally Reduce Triglycerides

Contrary to popular belief, triglycerides are not bad for your body.  Triglycerides are the chemical formulation of animal and vegetable fats that are formed when animal and vegetable oils combine with glycerol.  They are also present in the carbohydrates we eat.

The presence of triglycerides in our bloodstream is a normal occurrence.  They are used as energy or stored as fat.  Even the liver manufactures and converts excess calories as triglycerides.  Our body needs triglycerides because they serve as insulators and padding protectors for our internal organs.  They transport the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K and prevent dehydration and dryness of the skin.

The problem starts when there is an excess of triglycerides in the blood stream.  The presence of excess triglycerides in the body is known as hypertriglyceridaemia. This increases your chances of having a stroke or heart attack.  Arteriosclerosis or the hardening of the arteries is brought about by the deadly combination of triglycerides and cholesterol in the arterial walls.

The first thing to do to reduce triglycerides in the blood stream is to lessen your intake of carbohydrates.  High triglyceride levels are most often than not, brought about by a high carbohydrate diet. Carbohydrates come from products made with refined sugar and processed rice, flour, and wheat.  Switch to a diet that avoids these bad carbohydrates.  Eat more fruits because they provide the body with natural sugar.

Make it a point to get your daily dose of leafy greens.  Leafy green vegetables are rich sources of Vitamin C and folic acid.  These are antioxidants that help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Eat more fish because it is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.  Omega 3 fatty acids raise good cholesterol levels.  Fish with extra-virgin olive oil and garlic is the best combination to regulate the levels of triglycerides in the body.  If you are more of a meat person, it is better to take in lean cuts such as chicken, turkey meat, and veal than pork and beef.

Drink lots of water daily.  Water therapy is still the best if you want to lower the levels of triglycerides in your blood stream. Natural fruit juices and herbal teas are better than having soda and alcoholic beverages.

If you are a smoker, then now is the time to quit.  Nicotine increases your risk of having heart problems as it contributes in the build-up of plaque in the arterial walls.  It also inhibits the growth of cancer-producing cells.  Nicotine also lessens your body to use insulin and stores sugar in your blood stream.  As you know, sugar contributes to the increase of triglyceride levels in the blood.

Lastly, have a daily exercise routine.  Physical activity makes your motors run so to speak.  It makes the heart pump fresh blood into the veins thus encouraging proper blood circulation.

Lowering triglycerides naturally is an easy task but it entails self-discipline.  It is never too late to change your lifestyle into a healthy one.
