How To Use Cactus to Lower Glucose Levels

Traditional medicine and sticking to a strict low-sugar diet are not the only maintenance treatments to slow down the attack of diabetes.  Diabetes is truly a bummer and anyone that has it can say goodbye to a luscious lifestyle filled with candy and chocolates.  Well, aside from the commonly commercialized medicinal treatments offered by traditional medical practitioners, there is an alternative you can explore to consistently maintain significantly lower glucose levels.  Cactus is a proven natural plant that can be used to treat and lower glucose levels in a person and it can be taken on a daily basis through a variety of methods.  Here are some of the popular samples.

  • Start with Nopal Cactus.  While there are many types of different cacti that can be used and is proven to lower and regulate glucose levels, Nopal cactus is known to be the most potent.  This type of cactus is more popularly known as prickly pear cactus and is usually the most marketed cacti for holistic healing practices.  It is highly recommended to use this type of cactus to regulate your glucose levels.
  • Consider eating cactus-based food products.  Believe it or not, prickly pear cactus can be purchased as a food product.  You can purchase jams and spreads consisting of fruits and Nopal cactus extract.  You can take these directly or spread it on whole wheat bread for a nice afternoon sandwich.  To wash this down, commercially sold fruit juices with the same prickly pear extract would be a good drink.  These juices normally come concentrate or in powder from which you can solute in water to make a drinkable beverage.  Since the concentration of the prickly pear cactus is quite low in these food products, it is highly recommended to take at least 2 healthy servings a day coinciding with your regular meals.
  • Take Nopal cactus supplements.  If the food products available are not your cup of tea, then maybe a cactus-based food supplement will fit right into your daily diet.  Pharmaceutical companies have integrated prickly pear cactus extract into a capsule as a standalone supplement or as a part of a combination of various vitamins and minerals.  In any case, take 1 capsule daily with a glass of water.
  • Mix Nopal cactus powder in your drink.  As mentioned earlier, prickly pear cactus comes in powdered form as well.  A good way to take the supplement to regulate your sugar levels is by mixing the powder with your drink.  You can mix it in milk, juice, or soda.  The flavor of the powder should not affect the taste of the beverage so much.  Do not mix the powder in water if you don't like your water tasting funky.

It would be wise to consult a holistic healer or homeopathic medicine practitioner on the best ways to take prickly pear cactus.  Make sure to read up on the effects of taking this alternative enhancement.  Consult a traditional physician as well to see if the supplement may conflict with other medications you are taking.
