Body is the direct manifestation of mind. When you fear, your body hairs are raised and sometimes you suffer from fever or go unconscious. When you become kind enough, tears roll down from your eyes. When you become erotic, everybody knows what changes take place in the body. So everything is a reflection of what mind thinks.
Similarly so long as religion taught people that body is the home of God or body is the temple of God, people enjoyed peace and happiness of body and mind. Gradually religious leaders began teaching that body is the home to diseases, pain and sorrow -- that men are sinners and they are born to suffer. Due to such ill thoughts people started suffering from disease and despair. So in order to free yourself from such despair, you should try to find out and follow true teachings and path.
One who is in search of a path for getting everlasting wellness and happines should try to know where there is truth. Truth is real and has existence. Everybody feels the existence of his or her own Self. This Self directs the body and mind. In spiritual language this Self is called Soul (atman). Again what is truth should be divine. So this Self which has existence and truth is divine. For this it has been said - body is the temple of God. If you are in search of a path toward happiness, freedom and wellness, you should come closer to Self and realize it. You must try to turn inward. The path through which one turns inwards is Yoga.
- Chant OM - Yoga should be practiced early in the morning. It should begin with the chanting of OM. The sound of OM has very good effect on mind and cells in the body. No prayer or no hymn is comparable with OM. While chanting OM, you should keep your mind on the sound and after 10-15 minutes you will feel that mind and body have been activated, energized and concentrated.
- Practice Chakrabhedan - After chanting of OM, you should practice yogic exercise. There are many exercises or Asanas. Most of them are difficult and like performing in a circus. However, Chakrabhedan exercise is very simple, but most effective so far as concentrating body and mind is concerned. It will take at least half an hour.
- Practice Pranayama - After practicing Chakrabhedan, you should lie in a sleeping posture and keep your mind on breath that flows across nostrils. After half an hour, you will feel that breathing has slowed down or has remained still. This is Pranayama. Since body and mind have no movement, breath has remained still.
- Practice Meditation - After breath remains, keep your mind on Trikuti, a point in between eyebrows. Remain in meditation as long as you have time or get satisfaction. While practicing all these steps, eyes should always remain closed and you should think about your own Self and nothing else.
We know there are many directions in space. But from a spiritual point of view there are only two directions -- one is outside, the other is inside of body and mind. Outside there is world, and inside there is Self. Outside there is circumference, and inside there is center. Outside there is creation, while inside there is creator. Outside there is imagination and lies, but inside there is truth, reality and one who imagines. Outside there is illusion, while inside there is God. Outside there is enjoyment (bhoga), and inside there is Yoga. Outside there is bondage, but inside there is freedom. So at the end of these steps above, think and direct your body to remain well; think that everything good shall happen to you and to all. Everything outside is imaginary, and so your mind has control over them.
