How To Care for a Pool Table

A pool table is an expensive piece of entertainment equipment.  Pool tables don't require too much care and upkeep; if you take proper care of your pool table you will be able to enjoy many games of pool with your friends and family.  When caring for a pool table you need to pay attention to the felt, pockets and railings of the pool table. If you have a high quality pool table you will want to read the care and cleaning instructions that came with it to ensure that you don't use any corrosive or destructive cleaning products on the pool table. If the instructions don't specify what you can and can't use on the pool table, then the tips below should be an effective way to clean your pool table.

A huge key in taking care of a pool table is placing it in the correct area of your home.  You don't want the pool table in the direct sunlight because the sunlight will fade the felt top and may warp the wood railings.  When the pool table is not being used you should cover it with a tarp or pool table cover to keep the felt from getting dust and dirt particles on it.

The felt top on your pool table is the most fragile part.  Because of this, it's never a good idea to eat or drink on your pool table; if something is spilled, it will surely leave a stain and may seriously damage the felt.  No matter what you do, the felt will have normal wear and tear due to pool playing.  You can minimize the damage by not doing jump shots while playing pool.  If you notice dust or dirt on the felt of your pool table you can get a pool table brush or use your vacuum on a low setting to clean off the felt.

The wood railings and legs of the pool table should be cleaned or wiped down at least once a month.  Many people just use a damp soft cloth to wipe the legs and railings down to clean off any dirt and dust.  Lemon Oil iis a great product to use and really cleans the railings and legs.  Don't ignore the leather on the pockets; clean the leather with saddle soap to increase its life span.

Pool tables are easy to maintain and don't require a lot of maintenance.  If you follow these tips you will have a very clean and sturdy pool table to provide you and your family with many hours of fun. All you need is common sense when it comes to cleaning a pool table.
