The Sims is one of the more popular life simulation computer games out in the market. In this game, the player gets to control the lives of the virtual characters we all know as Sims. From assisting your Sims in choosing and buying a house, to encouraging them to go to work, to directing them to pay their utility bills, The Sims has proven to be successful in reaching out to audiences who are fond of playing digital doll houses. Several expansion packs have been released, and a few of these installments focus on the addition of pets such as dogs, cats, guinea pigs and birds into the lives of the Sims. Having pets in The Sims is very much similar to real life wherein one has to acquire a pair of animals and assist them in the breeding process.

  1. Get your choice of pet. Several breeds of cats and dogs are available for you to choose from. Have a male and female of your choice animal. You can check their gender by clicking on the relationship status bar, and a female and male symbol should be present in the pictures of the pet animals. Make sure the pair you acquire are of the same body size. Furthermore, make sure that the female pet you get is not yet pregnant.
  2. Get your pet a place to stay in. This is where your pets will breed. If you will be breeding dogs, then purchase a fair sized dog house.
  3. Become a master. Let your Sim spend as much time as possible with the new pets in the household. This is so the Sim can establish a solid relationship with the animals and eventually become master over them.
  4. Let the animals interact. Much like in real life, the pets in The Sims have to be attracted to each other for them to consider breeding in the first place. Let the master Sim direct the pair to each other for some quality time. This is so they can start to get comfortable with each other and eventually become best of friends.
  5. Encourage them to breed. If you notice that your pair is ready for some breeding time, you can now click on the pet's house. The option Try For Puppy/Kitten With should be selected, and you will need to choose the names of pets you want to breed. This is if there are more than two pets in your Sims' household. You should hear ball chimes once the female pet gets pregnant.

If your attempt at breeding your pets is unsuccessful, then chances are some updates are needed on the expansion pack. Access the official Web site of The Sims to get these updates.
