Crochet a Whimsical Life Preserver Coaster for Your Next Pool Party

Crocheting this whimsical coaster is easy with my free pattern!

Materials:

Small amounts worsted weight yarn in blue, white and red
Size H crochet hook
Gauge: 2 rounds of dc=1"
Size: 3 3/4" in diameter

Step 1:

Rnd 1: With blue, make ring (or ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring. I prefer the "magic ring" method--see the link to a magic ring tutorial below), ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3 (12 dc).

Step 2:

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc and in each dc around, join as before, fasten off (24 dc).

Step 3:

Rnd 3: Join red w sl st in top of 1st dc of Rnd 2, ch 3, dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc, changing to white in end of last dc, *with white, 2 dc in each of next 4 dc, changing to red in end of last dc, with red, 2dc in each of next 2 dc, changing to white in end of last dc, rep from *around in same manner, ending with white dcs, join as before, fasten off (48 dc).

Step 4:

Weave in the ends to give the edges of the coaster a neat appearance.
