Photographs are reminders for us of people, events, objects and stories that have been captured in the camera. Most of your grandparents and even mothers have piles and piles of photo albums stocked in a house cabinet or their room. Sadly, when you open and check, you can see fading pictures. This is because during the good old days, the camera was not digital. The photographs were saved on film, which in turn was printed as soon as possible. To help you restore these pictures through photo restoration, please see the following.

  1. Right software. Adobe Photoshop is the highly recommended software used in photo restoration
  2. Know the problem. Check out and scrutinize the picture. You should already have a goal or finished product before starting the restoration.
  3. Duplicate the picture. You can do this by clicking on the New Layer Icon that can be seen at the palette below. Go back to the original photo and turn the eye button off for it to become invisible.
  4. Background. You can either improve it or completely change it. If you want to improve it, you can just add more colors or gradient. If you will completely change it. The first thing to do is delete it. Next is to choose a solid background or a gradient again.
  5. Edge definition. You must be sure that the edges in the object are neat and clean. Photoshop has tools for clean up and edge touch up. These tools sharpen the objects, making the subject stand out.
  6. Gradient tool for the main object. You need to make a new layer icon again for the background you’ve made. It should then be dragged to the new layer made (the subject). And then, you should check out the linear gradient tool and make the gradient as forefront of the background. Next thing to do is to click the eye icon of the duplicate layer of the subject. The two layers must match colors, since this is restoration and not a new creation. To copy the color, click on the color of the object. Wait for the color picker box to appear. Once you see it, put the cursor to the picture’s object. After that, you must choose “OK” in the picker box. This must also be the same procedure for color of the background.
  7. Rubber stamping. Zoom in the object in the subject layer and check if there are any flaws or unnecessary colors or paint. The rubber stamp tool that you need to choose should be clicked at the start of the flaw, and drag it towards the end of the defect. Make sure that you do not confuse this with the pattern tool. This rubber stamp tool will easily remove discolorations, spots and other impurities. You can use this tool for all parts of the subject, like the object itself and all the other items surrounding it.
  8. Crop accordingly. The last step after editing and making up the photo is cropping and adjoining the new and better subject to the equally new and better background.
