# How To Draw an S Made Entirely of Straight Lines

It is possible to create the letter S by drawing a few straight lines and then connecting them! Skeptics may argue that the figure is the number eight, but when using straight lines, both the letter and the number can be created in the same way. How you look at it is what matters. Follow the easy steps described below to learn how to draw an S entirely with straight lines.

## Step 1

Getting started. The materials you will need are a sheet of paper, pencil and a ruler. You can dispense with the ruler if you are able to draw straight lines with a free hand.

## Step 2

First set of lines. Draw two rows of three vertical lines each, the lines in each row must be evenly spaced and correspond to the lines in the next row.

## Step 3

Connecting the lines. Using a ruler or drawing freehand, draw a slanting line to connect the first left line in the top row to the second line in the bottom row. Similarly, connect the second top line to the third line in the bottom row.

## Step 4

The next set of connecting lines. Connect the first left line in the bottom row with a slanting line to the line connecting the top left line in the top row and the middle line in the bottom row. Again, repeat the same process to connect the rightmost letter in the top row to the slanting line connecting the middle line in the top row and the third line in the bottom row.

## Step 5

Creating the top and bottom points. Draw two slanting lines which will meet at a point over the middle line to create the top half of the S. These lines will each originate from the first and third lines in the top row. Repeat the same process at the bottom row, drawing connecting slanting lines from the first and third lines of the bottom row, meeting at a point exactly over the middle line in that row.

## Step 6

Finishing. Use a black pen or marker to outline the lines making up the letter, you can also fill in color or shade in different hues to give a dramatic effect to the letter S.

The entire exercise should take you no more than 10-15 minutes. The uses of different colors or shading effects are a couple of ways in which you can embellish the letter, to make it look more bright and attractive.
