So you just bought Rock Band 2, but still want to play all those great songs from Rock Band 1?  This is a simple procedure for those who own an Xbox 360.  All it takes is a connection to Xbox Live, your Rock Band 1 disc, and 400 Microsoft Points.  When you insert your Rock Band 1 disc and start to play it you'll find a title update (so long as you're connected to Xbox Live).  Once you download this title update go to the Rock Band 1 options menu where you will find the "Export Songs" option. This will save 55 of Rock Band 1 songs onto your Xbox 360's hard drive, this takes up 1.53 gigabytes and costs 400 Microsoft Points as pay-off for the licensing cost for the Rock Band 1 artists.

This is small fee for 55 extra songs for play in Rock Band 2.  All Rock Band 1 songs will be saved as individual files onto your Xbox 360 hard drive so you can delete individual songs by deleting their files.  As a heads up three songs from Rock Band 1 will not transfer through this to Rock Band 2; those songs are: "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden, "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, and "Enter Sandman" by Metallica.

Unfortunately these great songs didn't make the transfer, likely due to issues extending the licenses.

Now in Rock Band 2 you will immediately have access to all your Rock Band 1 songs (excluding the three, obviously).  These songs are available in Quick Play mode and will also appear for selection in World Tour mode as well as in mystery set lists in World Tour mode.  When selecting songs Rock Band 1 songs will have a "1" in the icon next to the title and Rock Band 2 songs will have a "2" in the icon.

There is one other benefit to having the Rock Band 1 songs on Rock Band 2.  This comes in the form of the Challenge Mode. This mode pits players against challenges to beat certain songs, but some challenges are only available after you download the Rock Band 1 songs onto Rock Band 2.

For the small download fee the extra 55 songs for play in Rock Band 2 is a small and worthwhile price.
