Quilting is one of those projects that you will never finish unless you make a conscious decision to do it. Quite often, a woman will feel crafty and/or inspired and make it to her local craft store and load up on supplies only to find out that there is never enough time to finish the quilt.

That is where she is wrong. To finish a quilt, you have to make building that quilt part of the fabric of your life (excuse the pun). In all seriousness, instead of complaining that there's never any time, how about using your quilting project as a method for unwinding after a stressful day with the kids at the swimming pool or a rough day at work?

Another way to stay motivated while you finish a quilt is to make sure that the quilt represents something that means very much to you. Think about that person or that place and moment in time that really meant something to you -- then harness that feeling. Let it drive you to finish that quilt. Put yourself in a position that you can't help but work on that quilt because it brings you so much happiness and inspiration to your life.

Perhaps one of the top reasons that women do not finish their quilts is because they don't have a convenient place to finish them. Everyone should have that special place in the home that is just for them. It needs to be well-lit, and there needs to be a comfortable but stable space where you can both work and sit comfortably while working on that quilt.

Another important consideration is supplies. Nothing kills a quilting project faster than being out of a needle and thread or fabric. Make sure you are always in ample supply of these most basic materials, and just as importantly, make sure you have all of the tools you need so that you aren't scrambling around for scissors when you finally have the time, energy and inspiration to finish your quilt. Keep these supplies in a safe place so that you will never lose them.

Finishing a quilt doesn't have to be as complicated as it seems. By mentally committing yourself to the project, building it into your daily life, staying inspired, and ensuring that you have a good location with all of the right materials, you will be finished with that quilt in no time.
