How To Have a Karaoke Piano Party

There is a growing trend nowadays to throw karaoke piano parties.  Karaoke parties have become commonplace and a karaoke piano party seems to be a new twist to an old favorite, so to speak.  Read the tips below on how to have a karaoke piano party and be prepared to throw a fun-filled and memorable one for friends and family alike.

  • Find a piano and a piano player.  What’s a karaoke piano party without a piano and a piano player?  Be your own piano player if you have a decent repertoire of songs in mind to play and have those music sheets ready for those song requests.  Invite a friend who can play the piano. You can also hire a professional for this purpose.
  • Prepare a repertoire of songs to be played or at least have a working idea of the songs your guests may be interested in singing or listening to.  You can never go wrong with classic tunes and the latest popular hits played over the radio, or a theme.
  • Arrange the list of songs to be played alphabetically or according to the names of the artists and print out the list. This list will serve as the play list or the list of songs your guests can choose from.
  • Get online and find the lyrics of the songs on your play list.  Compile and arrange the lyrics sheets alphabetically.  Include pagination in your lyrics sheets.  Reproduce these lyrics sheets and the play list for easy viewing of the guests.
  • Get the PA system and microphones ready.  Have a spare microphone because you’ll never know if the one you’re using might conk out on you.  If you don’t have these items at home, you can rent them out.
  • Pick a venue big enough to hold the piano and your guests.  Throw the party at home or rent out a venue place that is accessible to you and your guests, if you want to be spared of the trouble of setting up and fixing up after the party.
  • Make a guest list at least a week ahead of the party and contact your guests in advance to confirm their attendance.  By preparing the guest list in advance and confirming the attendance of your prospective guests, you won’t experience the troubles of having a cramped venue, or heaven forbid, running out of food and drinks.
  • At the venue place, set apart the piano area from the guests’ and buffet table. Putting the piano on an elevated platform will help you do this trick. Make sure that people can gather around, or at least both sides of the piano, so do not set the piano near the wall. For added drama, put a spotlight on the piano and a separate spotlight on the singer.
  • Prepare enough food and drinks for your guests.  Prepare the food yourself, or order out in advance or do a potluck with your guests.  It is better to have extra food and drinks than to run short of it later on.  It is best to have the food and drinks on a separate buffet table.
