How To Join a Science Club

Joining the Science Club is a fun and educational way to meet others with a similar interest in science, and to explore new ways of learning. There are various Science Clubs, each with their own agenda, set of rules, tasks and activities. Some will take field trips and observe science in its natural setting while others will concentrate on conducting lab experiments and recording the results. Each Science Club offers opportunities to get in touch with others who have a love for science.

The first step in joining a Science Club is finding one that suits your interests. If you are a student, the first place you might want to look into for Science Clubs is through the school you attend. Usually you can find an already-established organization. It may not be called the Science Club, but the description itself will mention that its purpose is for individuals who are lovers of science to get together to discuss scientific topics and current events, attend science-themed functions and conduct science experiments as a group.  Science Club in schools are usually headed up by a teacher, professor or faculty member. Science Clubs can be found for nearly every grade level, from elementary grades to university levels.

To find a Science Club in your area that may not be affiliated with a particular school, try checking for a group through Meetup.  Meetup is a site which brings together like-minded people in a wide range of areas; if there is a science club in your region, it's likely they'll have a presence on Meetup.

Once you find the appropriate Science Club that you want to join, it is possible you have to apply for membership. Some Science Club memberships may be easier to attain, as you just fill out a form with your information. However, other Science Clubs are looking for individuals who have certain skills and assets which can help the group excel in their efforts to advance and understand science. It is also possible that you may need to pay a membership fee to be in the Science Club. Once you are approved, you will have the opportunity to take part in group activities and continue learning about science. 

After you have been approved for membership in a Science Club, it is in your best interest to learn about and take part in all it has to offer. Attend the Science Club meetings on a regular basis and volunteer for opportunities where you’ll be able to advance your own skills and learn new science techniques. Sign up for field trips and observations if they are offered to you, as they are one of the best hands on learning tools you can utilize to your advantage. Best of all, you'll have plenty of opportunities to socialize with others in the Science Club and network with those who share your interests in science.
