How To Keep Track of Knitting Records

If you're an avid knitter, you complete a lot of projects. You might even make so many, you don't remember them all, and that's where keeping track of knitting records comes in to play. If you're a smart knitter, you'll keep a notebook or journal of your favorite knitting projects, so you never lose track of yarns, needles, and patterns again. Keeping track of knitting records keeps you more organized and just makes knitting all the more enjoyable, too.

Step One: Look for a notebook or journal that's spiral bound, and preferably one that you can add pages to if you need to. Or, you can use a 3-ring binder, and put pouches or see-through pocket pages in it for your patterns. Either way, you want to use something that gives you room to expand and grow as you add information and keep track of those many knitting records that are usually scattered around the house.

Step Two: When you finish a project that you like, and may want to make again, make sure you write down all the information about that project in your journal. Do it before you finish your project, that way you'll never forget to track those favorite knitting projects.

Step Three: Be sure to include this in your information:

• A sample of the yarn, and a description - use the yarn label if possible, too.
• What size needles you used.
• A photo of the project.
• The pattern or where the pattern is located.
• The size or measurement of the knitting project.

Step Four: Keep your journal nearby when you knit, to jot down any notes you might have about the yarn, pattern, needles, or specifics about the way you complete your project.

Step Five: Tracking knitting records does take some time, but it will save you time in the long run, and you'll begin a library to track your favorite knitting records that will last for years.

If you knit all the time, this journal will become one of your most valuable tools in your knitting bag. It will save you time, since you won't have to search through all your patterns and yarn stash to recreate a project, and it will serve as a reminder of all the beautiful knitting you've accomplished.
