How To Make a Decorative Plate

Frosted decorative plates are an easy way to add to your décor. It will allow you to give your current décor a boost, with your own personal touch. Plus, this is a great gift idea for family and friends.

1. Your first step is to head to your craft store to get Armor Etch. Then, you will need to get clear glass plates, plastic gloves, brushes, stencils or anything else that you would like to use for your design. You will also need tape, and some plastic lined paper plates.
2. Put your design on the side of the plate that you would like decorative, and secure it with tape. If you are using a stencil, make sure that the opening is not covered by the tape. If you are using stickers, there is no need to use the tape, unless you are using the tape as part of the design. Then you are going to put the gloves on. This is very important, because if you do not have the gloves on, you will burn your hands.
3. Pour Armor Etch on a plastic lined paper plate and then dip your brush into the etching cream. Making sure that you have the side that you are not decorating face down. Apply a liberal amount of cream on the decorative side and cover thoroughly. If you do not use a liberal amount of cream you might have lines in the design that you might not want.
4. Then you are going to leave the cream on the decorative side of the plate for 10-15 minutes. It will depend on how deep you would like the look to go, as to how long you will keep the cream on. The deeper the etching in the plate, the better that it will hold and reflect the light in your décor.
5. After the 10-15 minutes are up, put your gloves back on, and rinse the plate under warm water until all the cream is rinsed off. Then set the plate aside and rinse your sink out thoroughly with warm water. If you do not rinse your sink when finished it will be etched as well.
6. Remove the stencils, tape, and other items used to decorate your plate. Wash the plate with soap and water, then dry. You are all finished and can display your new decorative plate.
