Smoothing a Malt Beverage While Adding an Extra Kick

Smirnoff Ice is a malt beverage that has nothing to do with vodka. While Smirnoff Ice is good by itself, adding tequila makes it really smooth. This is how to make my favorite drink, which I call a Mexican Ice.

  1. Chill a 16-ounce glass. Actually, chilling the glass is not required, however, since no ice is used, a chilled glass adds a nice touch. You can chill the glass either in a refrigerator or a freezer depending on how cold you want the glass to be.
  2. Add one shot (1 oz) of tequila to the chilled glass. I use Jose Cuervo Especial. While it may not be the best, it works for this drink. If you prefer a better label, go for it.
  3. Open and add one chilled bottle (11.2 oz) of Smirnoff Ice to the chilled glass. I sometimes substitute one of the Smirnoff Twisted flavored malt drinks, but, the original Smirnoff Ice is my favorite. Stirring is not needed and will probably only remove more of the carbonation. The more bubbles the better!

I prefer not to add ice. In my opinion, ice dilutes the drink without adding significantly to my enjoyment of the mixture. If the glass and the bottle of Smirnoff Ice are chilled, no ice should be needed.
