If you burn your own CDs, then you probably either put them in a CD case, or the case that the blank CD came in. It would be so much better though, if you could make your own cover for the CD, to fit the theme of the CD. You don't have to be an artist or have a widely creative imagination, it just takes a good printer and paper. If you are an artist, however, then making a CD cover would be a great project for you to do, and then others can see how talented you are, while listening to your kind of music.
Paint is an application on every computer that you can use to draw whatever you desire. You can make cool looking text, and add a variety of colors to it. You can even upload your own picture to it, and tweak it however you wish. For example, if your CD was a mix of punk rock, you could upload a skull picture and add flames and smoke to it, then use the text creator to make the album cover title. You can choose from about a hundred different fonts, so each CD you make will look completely unique from your others.
One of the key tools with any artist nowadays is Photoshop. Photoshop is a program that allows artists, photographers, and any other creative types to create and edit pictures with dozens of different tools. Every professional CD cover made, most likely has had the touch of Photoshop for the cover. If you're not very computer savvy, then just ask somebody you know, or read a tutorial on how to work Photoshop, and within a matter of time you will become a pro at it too. Computers don't come with it, but you can order it or buy it with your computer and download it. It can be a little bit expensive, but if you are really dedicated to your CDs and covers, then it would be a great investment.
And of course if you love to draw, then just cut paper to the size of the CD case, and design the cover yourself. It would be best to use a marker or Sharpie, so that even behind the plastic, it's easy to see. Then just slide your designed cover into the slip of the CD case, and you will have your very own designed cover, that didn't cost you a dime!
