Need a little something to decorate your jacket or bag for Valentine's day, or to give to a mother, grandmother, or even grandchild as a gift to let them know how much you love them? Make a few heart-shaped pins to give as gifts or keep for yourself! These projects are fairly easy and are great to do together with children or even friends.
Here's a list of what you'll need to make a heart pin, all of which items are available at your local craft store.
- 3 lever pin backs
- Hot glue or tacky glue
- 2 heart-shaped wooden craft findings
- Heart-shaped plastic craft buttons
- Felt (in desired color)
- Embroidery floss and needles (in colors to complement the felt)
- Acrylic paint and brushes (in colors to complement the buttons)
- Gel pens (in colors to complement the paint)
- Glitter (in colors to complement the paint)
For the first heart pin variation, take one of the wooden hearts and paint it with acrylics in whichever color you wish. Once dry, use the scissors to clip the bails off of the back of the plastic craft buttons. Once you've clipped as many as you think will fit onto the wooden heart, get your glue and glue them down. Once this glue has dried, turn the heart shape over and glue the pin back to the reverse side. Once set, you might decorate the edges with glitter, or leave as is.
For the second heart pin variation, take the remaining wooden heart and paint it with acrylics in the desired color. Once dry, decorate however you like (with lace designs, a message or name, etc) with gel pens and glitter. Once dry, glue the pin back into place and let set.
For the third heart pin variation, cut two hearts of identical size out of the felt. Stitch together around the edge with the embroidery floss. Have fun and use a decorative stitch! Embroider the heart's center with anything you like. (Another heart, a flower, someone's initials, etc.) When finished, glue the remaining pin back onto the reverse side and let set.
Now your heart pins are ready to wear or give as gifts to friends or relatives.
