How To Make Party Poppers

Parties always contain various elements. For children these generally include balloons, occasionally a clown, and most definitely party favors! However, you don't want to use something too cliche, as it might not catch your guests attention. You could hand out small trinkets, or perhaps even just have a basket of candy, but do you really want to mimic the actions of your local fast food joint? Luckily, there is a fun, easy, and best of all low budget method of creating an excellent party favor! Why should the guest of honor be the only one allowed to open gifts at a party? You can bring joy into the atmosphere, and make everyone feel welcome with these delightful party poppers! In six easy steps, you can create fantastic, colorful, and easy party poppers that will have guests, or the parents of, asking what party store you picked up your decorations from. All you have to do is smile, and tell them it's your secret!

  • Cardboard Tubes(Toilet paper rolls are optimal)
  • Tissue Paper
  • Ribbon
  • Tape
  • Candy/Goodies

Step 1

Cut a square of tissue paper(approx. 12"X12"), and place a cardboard tube on one of the edges of the paper, with about 3 inches of tissue paper on either side.

Step 2

Tape the cardboard tube to the tissue paper square on either side so that it holds firmly, and roll the tube in the tissue paper, all the way to the very end of the square.

Step 3

Using two more pieces of tape, attach the lose edge of the paper to the tube. Keep in mind, there should still be about 3 inches of paper on either side of the tube.

Step 4

Grip the edges of the excess tissue paper on one side and twist until it resembles the plastic wrapper of a hard candy. Cut a piece of ribbon (approx. 6"), and use it to tie this end securely.

Step 5

Now that you have one end secured, you can fill your delightful party popper with whatever you have chosen. Candy works well for children, as well as plastic trinkets. However, be careful they aren't too small as the child could easily choke on them.

Step 6

After you have completed the first five steps, all that is left is to secure the remaining end of the tube, and repeat the process! For additional spice to these fun party favors, color coordinate the tissue paper and ribbon to the rest of your party decorations. You can also purchase some lightweight wrapping paper to give the tubes a second layer of color. Experiment with different ideas until you have the perfect popper, and you're on your way to a room full of jubilant guests!
