How To Make Peace Sign Accessories

The peace sign was created in the seventies to symbolize peace in a war torn era. It was more in protest of the war that took place then, but it is still popular today and has become the universal sign for peace. The peace sign was seen almost everywhere in the seventies like graffiti on walls, t-shirts, bags, hats and almost anywhere you could stick the sign on. You can make your own peace sign accessories for yourself and friends.

1. Print on t-shirt

To make a peace sign shirt you will need t-shirt printing materials like a silk screen, textile paint, stencil and a squeegee. First draw the peace sign on a piece of paper and then carefully cut out the sign. The textile paint will be applied on the empty spaces.

Get a plain cotton shirt and place a piece of cardboard inside the shirt so the paint won’t go through the back of the shirt. Put the shirt on a flat surface. Assemble the peace sign stencil on the shirt. You can put tape underneath the stencil to hold it in place. Place the silkscreen frame on top of the stencil and t-shirt. If the frame is too big and you see exposed areas of the shirt, place paper in between the shirt and screen. Put some textile paint on the squeegee and apply to the screen directly on top of the stencil. Lift up the screen and take off the stencil. You will have the peace sign printed on your shirt.

2. Hand-painted accessories

An easier way to print a peace sign on a shirt is to use markers specifically for t-shirts. You can design a colorful peace sign directly on the shirt using the markers or you can use the textile paint and apply it on the shirt with a brush. Aside from shirts you can also paint the peace sign on canvass bags, sneakers, pants and bed sheets.

3. Peace sign hats

Find plain cloth and cut small squares from the cloth. It doesn’t have to be a perfect square. The more jagged the edges are the more hip it would look. Use the textile markers and design a peace sign on the square pieces. Now use a needle and thread to sew the square cloth on the front portion of the hat. You could experiment and place them anywhere on the hat.

4. Attach colorful crystals

You can attach colorful crystals to form the peace sign onto your bag, shoes, cell phone, media player, and just about anywhere you want. Some crystals are self-adhesive; all you have to do is peel of the paper underneath it and stick it to any surface. Other crystals have to be glued in place with a glue gun.

The possibilities are endless once you start designing your peace sign accessories. You can design peace signs on almost anything.
