The only investment that you will need is a bunch of tools and materials that you can mostly get in your garage, your effort and time. To learn more about how to make your own mirror frame, here are some quick and simple tips that you can use.

  • The first thing you need to do is to prepare all the necessary materials and tools needed. To get you started, you will need to acquire or purchase these items:
    • 4 boards
    • Saw (fine tooth blade)
    • 1 mirror
    • 4 L-shaped brackets
    • Finishing brads
    • Carpenter’s square
    • Tape measure
    • Pencil
    • Hanging brackets (for mirror)
    • Paint
    • Paint brush
    • Sand paper
    • Safety glasses
    • Safety gloves
    • Old used newspapers
  • Now that you have all the materials, get all the boards and the sand paper. Make sure you wear your gloves and goggles for safety. Begin by making sure that all the boards are flawlessly smooth. As soon as you are completely satisfied, get rid of all the excess dust that you see. Wipe it thoroughly clean but do not wet it!
  • Put your boards on a bunch of old newspapers and paint a light coat around the edges. Leave it at least an hour to dry. Do the same thing on the other side.
  • Using your tape measure, modify or adjust your saw until it is half an inch away from the blade. Make a groove by carefully cutting the board from end to end. Do this again with the remaining boards.
  • Position all your grooved boards from end to end and put the L-shaped brackets to bind it all together. At the center of the board, you can now attach the hanging bracket. It is very important that you double check everything. Make sure that everything is firmly nailed together.
  • Very carefully put the mirror in the frame. You can easily use this by putting caulk first on the boards and slide the mirror down. Make sure all the edges and corners match up.

Just follow these steps very carefully and you will have no problems whatsoever. It is highly advisable that you wear protective gears and clothing at all times especially when you are using power tools to avoid unnecessary accidents. If you are new to carpentry, ask someone who has experience. It would not hurt to ask help from your loved ones and friends. Always remember to measure everything twice to prevent or minimize errors. Now go out there and start doing the first step. Soon, you will be surprised with the finished product. It will surely be beautiful. Good luck and do not forget to have fun!
