You can marbleize a candle in seven steps. You will need the following:

  • Pre-made container candle in either white or cream colored wax. White or cream are the best colors to use when making a marbleized candle.
  • Liquid candle colorant - not chips.
  • Toothpicks.
  • A wick pin.
  • Wax paper to cover your work surface.
  • A heat gun or hair dryer.

Now you're ready to begin!

  1. Choose the colorant colors you want to add to your candle. Keep in mind when one is marbleizing a candle the colors can run together, so it's best to use only one or two colors per candle. The colors should be those that will blend nicely to make another color.
  2. Your wick pin is needed to poke holes down the sides of the candle between the candle and the glass.  These holes should go all the way to the bottom. The more holes you  poke, the more veins of color there will be. Poking holes away from the glass will not work for adding the marbleizing effect to a candle.
  3. Using a toothpick, dip one end into the colorant. You will need only a small drop of colorant on your toothpick. Using the toothpick, insert one color into each of the holes.
  4. Take your heat gun or hair dryer  and begin to heat the top portion of the candle in a circular motion. This begins the process of melting the wax. Heat the top until you see the colorant begin to seep into the wax.
  5. Heat the sides of the container in an up and down motion. Heat each line approximately ten seconds. You  have heated the line of color enough when you see the colorant begin to move toward the bottom of the container.
  6. After heating the lines of colorant begin to gently move the container back and forth from left to right to disperse the color, or use your wick pin to do so. This step makes the marble effect in your candle. Use caution as the wax is hot. Do not swish the container briskly. When using the wick pin to swirl the colorant, do not stir, move the instrument gently from side to side in an up and down fashion.
  7. Simply let the wax dry and enjoy the beautiful marble candle you have made.
