Boggle is a word game that can be enjoyed by players aged eight and older. It can be played by two to six players. In this game, words are formed from chains of letters within a limited time. The object is to be the player with the highest-scoring list of unique words.
To play Boggle, first you must set up the game. To do this, place the sixteen letter dice in the cube and shake them. Be sure to shake all the dice so they fall neatly into the tray with one side facing up. Straighten them if needed. Once all players have a pencil and paper, remove the cover from the game tray and flip the three minute timer. This signals the start of the game.
At this point, all players have exactly three minutes to find as many words as possible using only the letters facing up on the dice. Once the timer is started, no player may touch the tray or the dice. Words must be at least three letters long and be formed by adjoining letters. From the first letter, the second may be on above, below, to the left or right side or diagonal to the first, but the letters must be touching. The letters in the entire word must form a chain. No dice can be used more than one time in the formation of a word, but they can be reused to form different words. Only words that can be found in a dictionary can be used. Abbreviations, hyphenated words, proper names, and contractions are not acceptable.
When the timer runs out, all players must stop writing and reveal their list of words. If a certain word is on more than one player's list, no player receives points for it. Any unique words a player has are scored. Three and four letter words receive one point, five letter words receive two, six letter words receive three, seven letter words receive five, and words with eight or more letters receive eleven. The winner is the person who has the highest score. In the event of a tie, the person who has the longest list of words is typically considered the winner, or a tie-breaker round is played.
Learning to play Boggle is simple and can provide hours of entertainment for people of all ages. A strong vocabulary and a good dictionary will help you become an excellent player!
