We all love murder mysteries, so why not live one out in your very own home? No, you don't have to kill anybody; you can just play the fun and intriguing board game, Clue. Are you unsure about the rules? Well, just stay tuned and you'll soon know everything you'll ever need to know to play this popular board game.
To start the game, make sure you have all the pieces. A traditional game of Clue consists of six character tokens, one each for Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mr. Green, and Ms. White. There are also six weapons: the rope, the lead pipe, the knife, the candlestick, the pistol, and the wrench. The use of all these will be discussed later. Next, check to see if you have a deck of 21 cards, with six suspects, six weapons, and nine rooms. Make sure you have your detective notepad and your dice, and you'll be ready to go.
Begin the game by deciding which character you want to be. Next, choose one of each kind of card and put them into the "Case File" envelope that comes with the game. Shuffle the rest of the cards together; distribute them equally amongst all the players, move the weapons to the middle of the board. Now the game begins.
To win, you must discover who killed Mr. Body, with what weapon, and where in the house he was killed. Each of these elements in the murder is represented by the three cards inside the "Case File". To solve the murder you'll need to eliminate all possibilities but one. First, look at the cards you were dealt and mark those off in your detective's notebook. Then roll to see who goes first: whoever rolls the highest number goes first, next highest second, and so on. Move around the board until you find yourself in a room. Now you can make an accusation.
An accusation works like this: a player says, out loud, the name of the suspect, room, and weapon she believes lie inside the "Case File", moving the suspect and weapon into the room. It's important to note that the room in the "Case File" must be the same room the player currently occupies. It then falls to the other players to disprove the accuser by showing the accuser a suspect, room, or weapon card that matches one of the elements she mentioned. This element is then eliminated from possible participation in the murder. This process of elimination continues until one player finally has the answer. The player who first discovers the identity of the true culprit and is able to get to the correct room and announce it is the winner.
