The object of Spit is to deplete your cards by building piles in either ascending or descending order. The first player to run out of cards wins the game.

Step 1:  Shuffle the deck and cut it in half. The player who cuts the deck waits for the other to choose.

Step 2:  Each player lays down five cards in a row. The first card is placed face up, and the other four cards are laid out face down. Then another card is placed face up on the second card, and three cards are placed face down on the other three rows.  Repeat.  Ultimately, each player should have five rows of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 cards, with the top card on each facing up.

Step 3:  One player yells "Spit!" Each player then pulls one from the top of the remaining cards and places it between the two rows so that there are two piles.  From the five rows of cards, each player must find a card that fits the sequential order, either ascending or descending.  For example, if a player puts down a Queen, either a Jack or a King can be placed on top. If a Jack were to be laid down, either a 10 or a Queen could be played.  All subsequent cards must follow this rule, and both piles can be played simultaneously.

Once a card is selected from the five rows and placed on top of a pile, the card underneath is turned face-up. Each player must always have five rows of cards. If one row is depleted, move a face-up card over and flip the one underneath.

Step 4:  As soon as both players have run out of cards to be added to the piles, repeat Step 3 until all the cards from the five rows have been added to either pile. The player who depletes his five rows of cards first grabs the smallest pile. The remaining pile goes to the other player.

Step 5:  The players shuffle their cards, and then repeat steps 2, 3 and 4. The first player to run out of cards wins.
