There are few things that scream summertime birthday fun quite as much as playing with a piñata, but sometimes finding and using one can be a little difficult, and there are quite a few things to consider before finally whacking the paper statue, but if you follow these simple steps, you should be having all the fun you need in no time.

The first step in playing with a piñata is finding a piñata to play with. Most stores feature plenty piñatas, many in shapes of your children's favorite cartoon characters or superheroes, just feel the paper to make sure it can take a few hits, or else the fun will be extremely short lived.

Next you'll need to figure out what you want to fill it with. You can fill piñatas with toys or small gifts, but most frequently the filling is candy. Keep a few things in mind when choosing sweets, though. Make sure the candy you choose is wrapped, because baked goods or unwrapped candies can leave you with a huge mess and nothing to show for it. Also, be wary of using chocolates, because they have a habit of melting in warmer climates.

When you've chosen which filling is best, filling the piñata is simple. Almost all piñatas come with an area that says "press here." Simply apply pressure to it and create a hole which you can easily slide the candy or toys into, or make a small hole with a small knife or blade.

Now that you've chosen perfect piñata to play with, and filled it with your choice of prizes, you've come to the real fun part: playing with the piñata. To begin, pick a person from your group to go first, blindfold them, and hand them the stick.

From here, things can get dangerous, so make sure your institute safety measures, so that no one gets hurt. Playing with a piñata can be a very dangerous activity if not handled right. Make sure the groups give the hitter plenty of room, and guide the player so that he hits the piñata, and not other people.

Continue going through this process with the next people in line, until the piñata breaks, when everyone is free to take some of the reward. Just make sure everyone shares, otherwise playing with a piñata won't be nearly as fun.
