Everyday across the world people are abusing animals. For some it is neglect, such as not providing food and water. Being locked up in a small area, alone, afraid, and hungry, and others are being beaten for no reason at all. Many pets will be taken out of town and dumped off because people don’t want them anymore. They are left to fend for themselves in a world that they know nothing about. There are many ways in which abused animals can be helped, but for now let’s just focus on a few.
One important way of helping abused animals is to donate to local or national humane and rescue centers. Donating food, time, and energy are all things that will help abused animals regain health, and faith in people, and give them a chance at a permanent home with a loving family. Money is also a very important way of helping our animal friends. Donated money can usually be used as a tax break for you while at the same time providing many animals with vaccinations, medications, and x-rays. Money can also be used in spaying and neutering pets stopping unwanted litters of babies. Veterinary costs add up quickly when people abuse animals.
Puppy mills are inhumane and illegal! Do not buy a puppy or any other animal from someone that is just breeding animals for the money. These people do not care about the health of the animal and they do not take care of the adults or babies. Most of the time there are so many animals that they are confined in small spaces and receive no exercise. They end up sleeping and literally living in their own feces. Inbreeding is common and many complicated health issues happen when this takes place. These mills do not breed for the health and well being of the animals. If you suspect a place of being a mill, call the police or local humane society and let them check it out.
When you decide that you have room in your life for a pet there should be a few guidelines you should follow. Make sure you have available free time daily to spend with a pet. Your days should allow for companionship with your pets, and a time to bond and strengthen that bond each and every day. Make sure you have the ability to take pets to a veterinarian when they need medical help or even just a checkup. When you decide to go looking for a pet, buy from the local animal shelter instead of deciding to buy an expensive pure bred.
