How To Start to Play the Violin

Starting to play a violin can be difficult for you without proper information and guidance of a violinist as a tutor. You need to get a tutor so you will be guided on all the fundamentals and proper techniques in playing the violin. A violin is a string instrument played with a bow, and this makes it quite difficult and complex. The violin must be taken seriously for you to master the instrument.

Passion to play violin. Make sure that the reason why you want to start to play violin or want to study violin is because you want to learn it, not because your mother told you or your grandparents forced you to study it. Passion in playing violin is very important so you will not have a hard time in following the instructions and techniques that will be taught.

Familiarize yourself with the instrument.  Before you start your lessons, familiarize yourself with the different parts of violin. Parts of violin includes scroll, peg, peg box, fingerboard nut, fingerboard, neck, string adjuster, tailpiece, chain rest, endpin, tailpiece gut, bridge, f hole, top or belly, purfling, sides or ribs, tailpiece saddle and tailpiece gut.  Familiarizing yourself with all the violin parts is very important so you can easily follow the technique given to you by your tutor.

Fundamental skills to study violin. The key to learning the violin well is to master the three important fundamental skills.  These include the way you hold the violin, the way you hold the bow and the motion of bow arm. For a beginner like you, perfecting to hold the violin is very essential you can do this by comfortably sitting in a chair or in standing a standing position whatever you feel comfortable. Put the violin under your chin and make sure that your violin rest on your left shoulder and the neck is place between your thumb and your first finger. Make sure that you hold the bow lightly with your thumb and your finger. Your first finger should be on top of your pad, this is to lessen and add more tension to your bow strokes. Following these will help you play the violin easily.

Devote your time.  Have regular sessions with your tutor. If possible, meet your tutor everyday, so you will not forget the lessons. For a beginner you will probably be overwhelmed with all the things that you are being taught. That is why having daily sessions is very important.

Practice makes perfect. Practice is the secret of perfection. Even the greatest violinists practice every day and play their violin almost every day of their life. But they never get tired of doing it again and again. Always play your violin in your spare time or before going to bed. This way you will remember all the pointers that your tutor taught you.

Playing the violin takes a lot of discipline. For you to perfect your skill and technique, you will have to practice hard and regularly. With the help of your violinist tutor and with proper discipline and determination, though, nothing is impossible.
