How creative you are doesn’t depend on outside influences like which political party is in power, or what the weather is like today. You can be as creative as you to choose to be. You can vote for positive change in your creative life today.
Here are 3 of the key ways you can choose creativity:
- Choose to create every day. If you’re serious about creativity being a key part of your life (and you are because you’re reading articles like this one), then it’s crucial to make time and space for creating each and every day. Before you start to tell me you’d love to but you don’t have time, you only need start with 15 minutes each day. A quick sketch, a couple of journal pages or a small painting is enough to get you started and develop those daily creative habits you can then expand to create whatever projects your heart desires. Begin small, embed the habit, then build up gradually.
- Choose to believe you’re creative. Whatever you may say on the surface, if deep down you don’t actually believe you’re very creative, then this will limit all your creative efforts. It‘s the equivalent of taking a horse to the middle of a huge meadow, tethering to a post with a 5 metre rope and expecting it to gallop freely. Make a list of all the beliefs you have around creativity, both positive and negative. Weed out those that limit your thinking and ability to create, and focus on those that free you. Choose to believe you’re creative.
- Choose the friends that will support you. Whatever our own beliefs about how creative we are, if we’re constantly exposed to people who are negative and critical about what we’re creating, it’s bound to have an unfavourable effect. If you hear things like “that’s not real art, just a silly little hobby” or “who said YOU were an artist anyway” enough times, you’ll start to accept them as truth. Find other creative people and communities that support you, and keep yourself away from draining negative influences as much as possible. Again, this is a way you choose creativity and positivity in your life.
Being as creative as you know you have the potential to be is about choosing to be that way.
Start with the 3 key elements above and vote for positive change in YOUR creative life today.
