Book clubs create a wonderful environment for connecting people with like minds. Christian book clubs can do even more because they promote fellowship among kindred spirits.  If you seek the company of fellow Christians, and you enjoy stimulating conversation, a Christian book club may be the hobby you’ve been looking for.

Often Christian book clubs begin within the walls of churches.  Sunday school classes, Bible study groups, or women’s fellowship organizations frequently develop into subgroups of Christian book club members.  Like any book club, members agree to read the same title in their own spare time.  Then they come together on a regular basis to discuss the book’s content and compare ideas on meaning and philosophy.

Christian book club leaders usually select titles written by Christian authors.  Most often, the books discussed in the group were written about the Bible or they contain a theme relevant to Christian lifestyle.  Club members share thoughts and feelings about the book's content, but they also reflect on the impact a particular book may have had on their own spiritual journey.

Churches are not the only venues for Christian book clubs.  Christian moms of preschoolers, home school parents, and even civic groups may decide to spin off and form their own Christian book clubs.  There are even Internet sites devoted solely to the purpose of discussing Christian book titles.  Chat rooms, forums, blackboards and email groups are all represented within the arena of online Christian book clubs.

The membership of Internet book clubs is enormous, and the profile of each member differs greatly in geography, age, gender and even language.  This vast diversity can be both positive and negative for the virtual Christian book club.  On the positive side, members can come together under the name of Christ and fellowship on a very broad scale.  Fellow Christians are encouraged and their faith is strengthened when they realize the enormity of the Christian community across the globe.  But on the negative side, this huge populace of believers rarely agree on theology and doctrine.  Differences in opinion and interpretation are often discussed heatedly, causing division in the ranks of the world-wide church.  Here enters the discouragement of Christians, and hence the weakening of their faith.

In spite of any negative effects, Christian book clubs are thriving and flourishing in our society today.  Even television and radio outlets are getting onboard, opening up memberships to new audiences every day.   Why not grab your reading glasses, and join today?
