When decorating a kitchen for Christmas, it is best to use decorations that are pleasing not only to the eye, but also to the ear, nose and even mouth. One of the most popular ways to decorate for Christmas is by choosing a theme. You could choose to decorate with snowmen, angels, Santa, or any other Christmas theme you choose.

If you have extra cash, you could hit department stores such as Wal-Mart or Target that have color-coordinated ornaments and decorations. If you are short on cash, shop at yard sales and secondhand and thrift stores. You could look specifically for snowmen, angels, or whatever theme you choose. If you can't pick just one Christmas icon, you could choose to decorate by color. For example, you could choose to decorate in red and gold, red and green, purple and gold; the choice is yours.

Decorate for the eyes

Start with your kitchen table or countertop. A beautiful runner in your theme would be a good foundation. On top of the runner, place a clear glass bowl with round glass Christmas ornaments or pine cones, depending on your theme. A good centerpiece can go a long way to set the tone for your décor. For chairs, you could buy or sew slip covers. Lakeside Products has a great selection of slip covers. For your floor, you could purchase inexpensive Christmas mats. They usually have them at Wal-Mart, Target, and so on. Around door frames, you could put up garland, holly, lights, or faux evergreen, depending on your style.

Decorate for the nose

In order to create a nice Christmas-y atmosphere in your kitchen, you can purchase cinnamon scented pine cones or potpourri made in scents for the holidays. Put them in a colorful glass or Christmas-themed bowl.

Decorate for the ears

Create a Christmas feeling by playing a CD or download music for the holidays. I recommend Elvis or any other classic artist, such as Bing Crosby.

Decorate for the taste buds

Bake or buy Christmas cookies. You can get a jewel-toned platter for a couple of dollars at Wal-Mart or K-Mart. If you already have a platter that is not Christmas-themed, simply cover it with aluminum foil, tissue or wrapping paper to match your theme.

Have fun decorating your kitchen for Christmas!
