They Are Fun to Make and a Feast for the Eyes!
The winter holidays are a time of festivities. We decorate, give and share with our loved ones. Gingerbread houses are an icon of such time. Are you looking for a special craft that you can do with your children or grandchildren? Well, you just found the perfect one! You can make little gingerbread houses that are beautiful, fun to do and inexpensive as well. Has your curiosity been tickled pink yet? Let's see!
Ingredients:
- 1 box of graham crackers
- 1 container of vanilla icing
- Candies of your choice
Tools:
- 2 or 3 small empty milk cartons (250 ml or 1 cup)
- 2 or 3 small disposable plates
- 2 or 3 popsicle sticks
- 1 butter knife
Instructions:
- Clean the inside of the milk cartons thoroughly with warm soapy water.
- Rinse repeatedly with clear water.
- Open the spout and let the milk cartons air dry for a day.
- Close spout and glue, staple or tape it shut.
- Cover the top of the milk carton with some icing, spreading it with a popsicle stick. Do not cover the whole house with icing as it dries quickly and loses its stickiness.
- Top the icing with a graham cracker. You may need to trim the cookies (using a butter knife), making the roof a smaller size in order to fit properly.
- Spread some dots of icing where you want to add candies as decorations.
- Once the roof is completed, spread some icing on the small plate in order to stick the house on it.
- Gradually cover each side of the house with icing and graham crackers.
- Decorate the walls with candies.
- Spread more icing on the small plate, as it represents a yard covered in snow.
- Decorate with candies.
- Repeat the previous steps for the other gingerbread houses.
Make a whole village or give them to your loved ones. This amount of icing should make 2 or 3 Gingerbread houses. They are not only adorable but also make great gifts. Have fun and...enjoy!
