So your boss is throwing an inner office "Toga party," for no other reason than to celebrate his Roman heritage, and you aren't sure how to wear one. Follow these steps and you too will be ready to rule like a Roman Emperor in no time.
Stop. Don't even think of making a mad dash to your room to yank the sheets off your bed. That simply will not do. Take a trip to your local fabric store and buy about four yards of drapery material. Specifically, you are looking for cotton, muslin or poplin. Nowadays it is not necessary to be authentic in your toga wear, by adorning your extremities with a loin cloth or apron, instead you can wear whatever you would like underneath like a sleeveless tank, or a bathing suit.
Now, holding the length of the material horizontally, wrap it around your waist one-and-a-half times. Okay, you can either pin it - careful not to stick yourself - or tie it. Alright, so far so good. Using the remaining material, choose a shoulder, right or left, it does not matter, and throw it over. Okay, we all remember our mother's saying "Tuck in your shirt!" That is our next step, tucking in our toga. In order to properly tuck the toga, gather the material bringing it back around to your waist then tuck into your waistband. However if you have a similarly colored sash, you could use that to tie your toga, or using a pin, you can always pin it together. All that is left now is simply adjusting the toga to fit and you are ready to party like the Romans!
To recap all of the steps to wearing a toga, first make sure you have three to four yards of drapery material. Remember to hold the fabric horizontally so that you will be able to wrap it around your waist one-and-a-half times before you attempt to pin or tie it. Next you will throw remaining material over either shoulder before finally tucking the toga into your waist band.
Whether you are going to attend a Frat party, office themed party, or Halloween party, just follow these steps and you will have no trouble wearing a toga the way it was designed to be worn. Though keep in mind togas were removed once those who wore them went indoors. Before becoming popular attire for everyone, togas were worn by Roman Emperors.
