Holidays usually bring family members under one roof, especially families with siblings and children scattered across the country (or even across continents). So aside from eating heartily, games can also be a great way to have fun and quality time with family and friends. These games are a great way to help people interact after not having seen each other for a long time. This is also a great chance for the kids to have a more active role in family activities.
Here are some of the holiday games that you may choose to play during the holidays.
Easter
If you're having an Easter luncheon at your house for family and friends, you may also host an Easter egg making contest. Just prepare the hard boiled eggs, paint, oil pastel, crayons, dye, glitter and other things that you can use to decorate the eggs. Have grandpa or grandma (or the most senior family member) be the judge of who has the best design.
You may also prepare in advance for your party by hiding other plastic Easter eggs with candies or chocolates inside. You can use your lawn or backyard for this purpose. While candy-filled eggs are prizes in themselves, you can also give prizes to those who can find the most eggs.
Halloween
Now this is a really fun time! Halloween parties are really among the kids' favorites, so you really have to prepare well for the games. One favorite is bobbing for apples. You basically put apples into a basin filled with water and ask the kids to get the apples without using their hands - only their mouths! Those who can get the most apples or those who can get three apples the fastest will win a prize.
You may also play "pinning" games for this particular occasion. "Pin the nose of the witch" or the "teeth on the vampire" would definitely help children enjoy your party. Make sure that you keep the play area safe, since kids will be wearing blindfolds. Perhaps you can use adhesive stickers rather than actual pins, just to be on the safe side.
A mummy making contest would also be a great hit. Have the kids pair up and have them wrap their partner with rolls of tissue paper. The first one to finish two rolls gets the prize.
Lastly, have a good old fashioned best-costume contest. Most kids prepare real hard for their Halloween costume, so it would be very interesting to see who the judges would pick as the best dressed witch, ghoul or vampire.
Christmas
Egg nog is one of the treats that gets served a lot during the holiday season. To give the kids at your party a nice way to enjoy the dinner, you may ask them to join in an eggnog drinking contest. Just give them a big mug of eggnog and give the prize to the one who finishes first.
Exchanging gifts is also one of the games done during this occasion. Mark or number all the gifts available and make lots for the corresponding numbers. Have each member draw a number and give the corresponding gift to the person. This sure mixes up the party a bit and makes things a lot more interesting.
Holidays are best spent with family and loved ones. What's a better way than by having fun and games?
