How To Put Up Christmas Outdoor Decorations

Putting up Christmas outdoor decorations is something that most people don't look forward to. Right there lies the problem.  By making the hanging of the decorations a fun event and maybe trying to include the whole family, not only will your stress level go down, the rest of your family will have one of those family memories that they will remember forever.

Most everything you do at Christmas time is a ritual.  Every family has certain things that they do every year.  Whether it's Christmas music playing while decorating the Christmas tree or a special dish at Christmas Eve dinner, there are always certain traditions that all families follow every year.  Why not make hanging the outdoor Christmas lights one of them?

One of the first things to do would be to choose a time for this new family tradition.  Some people put up their Christmas tree on Christmas Eve or hang their stocking just before they go to bed.  Hanging the outdoor decorations should be done in early December.   A good day might be December first, and you could use the date to officially kick off the Christmas season with you and your family.

Organization is also key, so make sure all of the equipment needed is ready when you start to put the decorations up.  Make sure you have enough hangers, stakes, string, tape, and anything else you are going to need.  Usually when the decorations are being put away the year before there are some things that break, get lost, or just are not usable anymore, so make sure you have what you need.  Decide how many decorations and what kind of decorations you are going to use.  Usually each family member has certain decorations that they like best.  To make the event more enjoyable to them and to personalize it for them, give them the opportunity to make some decorations on their own.

Selecting where the decorations are going to be set up is the next step.  You want to make sure there is a balance to the decorations and that you cover as much of the property as possible. Have each person set up their personal decoration so that they feel as if they have a personal stake in the event.

After the decorations are set up the family can still enjoy being part of the process if they take turns turning on the lights each night. Once again, keeping everyone involved makes the whole process more enjoyable for everyone.
