How To Know Sources of Power Generation

Many people decided to go green in the early 90's after a hole in the ozone layer started appearing near the poles and triggering the events that would lead to global warming. Worried scientists have determined that the majority of those carbon-containing compounds like chlorofluorocarbons from sprays and the carbon dioxide emitted by fossil fuels are to blame for the ozone layer's erosion. Engineers and chemists have come up with other cleaner ways of power generation to stall the catastrophic event from destroying our planet.

These alternative sources of power generation are currently being utilized. They are referred to as renewable sources of energy advocated by developing countries.

  1. Wind generators. Strong winds gushing through enormous blades of windmills have the capacity to make electricity or mechanical energy. Most of the time, electrical energy created by this type of generator is stored in fuel cells. The fuel cells are then used to supply electricity to remote locations. One major downside of this type of generator is the fact that wind is a bit fussy and variable. It needs to be located in a place where winds most likely intermingle. The faster the blades turn, the more energy is generated.
  2. Solar power generators. This is most likely to be a forerunner of future technology. Many countries have adopted giving incentives to households that install solar panels to generate electricity for their personal consumption. Solar panels are quite expensive to set up but their benefits far outweigh their cost. Global warming however, could affect the contact of the sun's UV rays to the solar panels. The current trend in most countries is to use solar power in the daytime and use electricity from fossil fuels at night.
  3. Tidal power turbines. The enormous force of tidal waves has also been used as an alternative power generator. The bigger the force hitting the turbines the more energy will be hoarded into the fuel cells. Many scientists have predicted the preference of people for this power source since our planet is made up of water. The problem is that it could only supply power for those at sea-level areas. Other areas are beset by the effect of the moon on the movement of the tides.
  4. Nuclear reactors. The collision and fusion of small particles of atoms generate energy that can be efficiently channeled into electrical energy. Most developed countries are using this in addition to their other power plants, as this is a much cleaner and cheaper way of generating power. The downside is that nuclear plants might cause more hazards when something goes wrong during their operation.

Environmentalists are still discovering new ways of utilizing power generation of alternative power sources. The future generation looks forward to a time when the fossil fuels have exhausted themselves and that the world will turn to these different sources of energy generation to power their technology and other machines that might require force from these alternative fuels.
