Renovating a house or moving into a new place is not an easy task. You have to hire some workers to clean the house, paint the walls and replace furniture and fixtures. One of the most important rooms in the house is the bathroom. It is important that all the fixtures in the bathroom are in good working order so that you can get the most out of your bathroom experience.
If you are renovating your bathroom or installing a new bathroom sink, you can do so easily. One of the steps in installing a bathroom sink is attaching the horizontal stopper valve. The horizontal stopper valve is the device that is used in stopping the water from draining. The mechanism is made of a ball that stops the flow of water when the lever of the stopper is moved.
Here are the simple steps on how you can attach a horizontal stopper valve to your sink:
- Locate the stopper valve. The first thing that you have to do is to locate the stopper valve on your sink set. The stopper valve has a lever and a ball attached to it. You can consult the manual of the sink set if you are not aware of what the horizontal stopper valve looks like.
- Apply sealant to stopper valve. When you already have the horizontal stopper valve, the next thing that you have to do is to use a sealant and apply it to the horizontal stopper valve assembly. The sealant will act as a lubricant for the stopper so that you can operate the lever and so that the stopper can move smoothly when you use it. Aside from acting as a lubricant, the sealant is also used to prevent the sink tubes from having leaks. Get the tube of the sink and remove the rubber gasket from the tube. The rubber gasket is the circular-shaped rubber attached to the tube. Put some sealant on the place where the rubber gasket slides. Replace the rubber gasket and add more sealant.
- Attach plunger to stopper valve. After putting sealant on the tube or the stopper valve assembly, the next thing to do is to attach the plunger. Insert it through the hole on the sink and locate where the plunger goes through under the sink. Get the rod of the stopper and apply sealant on it. Again, this will help prevent the stopper from getting stuck and will also prevent leaks on your sink. Afterwards, attach the rod to the hole on the drain and screw it in using the ring on the rod.
- Test the rod. After screwing it in place, move the rod up and down to see if it glides smoothly. If you are having difficulty moving the rod, unscrew it again from the assembly and add more sealant.
These are the steps on how you can attach a horizontal stopper valve to a sink. Now that you know how to do this, you will easily be able to repair your sink when there are leaks and problems with the stopper.
