How To Build a Liquor Cabinet

Many adults keep alcohol in their homes, which can be dangerous if it gets in the hands of children.  To counteract this, many parents prefer keeping their alcohol in a safe liquor cabinet.  Buying a new liquor cabinet can be expensive, so some people choose to build their own.  Building a new liquor cabinet can be difficult without proper instruction.  This article will give you the steps needed in how to build a liquor cabinet.

The first step in how to build a liquor cabinet is to determine a location for it.  The cabinet should be kept out of reach of young children, and possibly out of sight of teenagers.  Once you have selected a site, the next step in how to build a liquor cabinet is to decide how large you need your cabinet to be.  You will need to consider how much liquor you normally have on hand, and how tall each bottle is.  Your Liquor cabinet should be at least 18 inches wide, by two feet tall, and two feet deep.

After selecting a site and deciding how large it needs to be, the next step in how to build a liquor cabinet is to gather supplies.  You will need at least 6 pieces of flat wood for each side of the cabinet, a hammer or screwdriver, a saw, nails or screws, sand paper, and wood finishing stain.  All of these items can be purchased at a local hardware store.

After obtaining all the necessary supplies, the next step in how to build a liquor cabinet is to begin assembling the cabinet.  The first step in assembling will be to attach the two sides and back to the bottom of the cabinet, and once those are secured attach the top.  Depending on the wood you purchase, you can use either nails or screws to attach.  If the wood has not been previously sanded, spend a few minutes sanding the wood to make it smooth.

The next step in how to build a liquor cabinet is to install the front elevation.  The front of your liquor cabinet can vary based on your needs.  You will need to install hinges on the left front of the cabinet, which will also attach to the front elevation.  This will allow the front to swing open.  Once the front is put on, you can install a lock to prevent anyone from accessing the liquor.

After applying the front and a lock, the next step in how to build a liquor cabinet is to stain the cabinet.  You may need to apply two or more coats to the liquor cabinet to achieve your desired shade.  Wait at least 12 hours between applications.  Once you are done staining the cabinet, your new liquor cabinet is ready for use.
