How To Buy Fire Block Foam

As time evolves, new technology continues to produce more and more inventions. During the old days, people used simple water to douse fire. Then, the fire extinguishers and sprinklers were introduced to end fire. In the 21st century, foam was created to block and stop fire from spreading. These fire block foams resist the movement or passage of fire to another space. These materials are especially useful for areas where homes and buildings are built close to each other. With fire block foam, the spread of a fire is kept under control.

If you think that you need fire block foam to protect your self, family, and home, here are factors to consider.

1.    Check the composition or ingredients of the Fire Block Foam. Generally, the fire block foams are made from polyurethane. To make sure that the materials used in your fire block is effective, be sure that it has the MSDS or Material Safety Data Sheet which indicate whether the materials used have passed quality control standards. Also make sure that the materials are nontoxic even during combustion.

2.    Check the Testing Certifications. Certifications ensure that the products are functional and effective. There are three types of tests that your fire block foam should have passed.

  • ASTM E 184. This test is Standard Practice for Effects of High-Energy Neutron Radiation on the Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials. This test is for large scale fire tests. Actual penetration is simulated to test the foam sealant. Initially, this was only done for fire stop materials or materials that are industrially used.
  • ASTM E 136 or known as Standard Test Method for Behavior of Materials in a Vertical Tube Furnace at 750°C. This is a small scale test that rates foam and its raw materials for combustions properties.
  • ASTM E 84 ASTM E84 – 09c Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials. This procedure examines the different combustible building products. This test also determines the flame spread and smoke generation characteristics of an insulation material.

3.    Client Review. If you will buy big bulk for a residential community or a condominium and you do not have any technical support in evaluating the best fire block foam, you should ask at least three suppliers to give you quotes on the product. Remember to tell them your requirement which will include the scope and location where the fire block foam will be needed. Ask the suppliers to include the unit cost for each type of product. Check customer reviews to assess whether the products are effective for other clients or not. Narrow down your selection based on the quality of products. Once you have reached the top three suppliers for high quality fire block foams, you can choose which product to use based on the supplier with the most affordable price.

When it comes to fires, prevention is definitely better than a cure. With fire block foam installed in your house, you can rest assured that you have better defenses to protect you and your property from damage.
