How To Change the Battery in a Cordless Nailer

Changing the battery in a cordless nailer is a fairly straightforward process. All you need are the new battery and your nail gun. Of course, you also need to follow some basic safety measures. To learn how to change the battery in a cordless nail gun, read the following guide.

• What you need to have: Aside from your nailer, you will also need your new battery. You can also charge a used battery instead of using a brand new one. In this case, you should have a charger with you.
• First of all, make sure that your nail gun is switched off. Even though it won't run without a battery, it's still a good idea to keep it switched off as you change the battery. This is because by the time you finish changing the battery, you might have already forgotten that the nail gun is switched on. This means that if you accidentally squeeze the trigger, you might end up hurting yourself or someone around you.
• Choose the best battery for your nail gun. There are too many battery brands and variations to list here. The point is simply that you may want to look around a little before deciding on which brand of battery to use for your nail gun. Some of the useful places to investigate are websites dedicated to home improvement, online forums run by enthusiasts, and video websites such as YouTube.
• Make sure that the battery that you're switching in for the old battery is fully charged. This shouldn't be a problem if you're using a brand new battery. Otherwise, charge your battery first. All you need to do this is jack your charger into one of the wall outlets in your house and then stick in the battery. Once your battery charger's light indicator says it's charged, you can then use it on your nail gun.
• Open the hatch. Once you have your fully charged or brand new battery and your nail gun, open the nail gun's battery hatch. For most models, all you need to do to open the battery hatch is slide the lid to one side with your thumb. Once the battery hatch is open, remove the old battery. You can dispose of the battery, if it's a disposable type. If it's a rechargeable battery, you may want to recharge it now, so that you can use it again later.   
• Put in the brand new or newly charged battery. Take your new battery and slide it into the battery hatch. There is only one way to fit the battery into the hatch, so if you aren't able to make it fit on the first try, just flip the battery over and then try again. Keep trying, reorienting the battery each time until you find the right orientation. Then slide it in and close the battery hatch.

You can now use your newly charged nail gun. If you keep your old battery and recharge it, you can repeat this process in the future without buying new batteries.
