Many people assume that a toilet must be cleaned with commercial toilet bowl cleaners. Here's how to clean a toilet in a more environmentally friendly way.

Plain water is one of the best bathroom cleaners that you can use. It is environmentally friendly and inexpensive. It leaves no fumes behind and is not harmful to children and pets. Those who are used to using a lot of harsh chemicals may not know how to clean a toilet without them.

Step 1:

Lift the lid of the toilet.

Step 2:

Dip a toilet brush into the clean water of the toilet. Take the wet toilet brush and scrub the top of the rim of the toilet. Dip the toilet brush back into the clean water and flush the toilet. This lets the rushing water rinse away the dirt that is on the toilet brush.

Step 3:

Take the toilet brush out of the toilet and scrub the underside of the toilet seat. Dip that brush into the toilet water and flush the toilet.

Step 4:

Angle the toilet brush to the underside of the rim. Scrub the dirt out from this area and dip the brush into the toilet, flushing each time you rinse the toilet brush. This is often the dirtiest part of the toilet, so it may need several flushes to get it clean.

Step 5:

Bathroom cleaners generally aren't needed to clean a toilet if you put the effort into scrubbing the grime instead of relying on bathroom cleaners to dissolve it away. If you want to disinfect your toilet brush, just fill a bucket with boiling water and place the brush carefully into the bucket. This will kill any germs that are lingering on the brush.
