Your house surely looks sophisticated because of your wood flooring. But you only have one problem: you don’t know how to clean this elegant wood flooring you have. Cleaning these high-class hardwood floors is not as easy as cleaning tile, laminate, or other home flooring.

The advice and cost for cleaning wood home flooring will also depend upon the kind of wood your floor has. Hardwood floors need a different cleaning methods to bamboo flooring for instance.

  1. Regularly sweep the wood floor. Use a soft broom most of the time when sweeping. You may use a fine bristle broom also to remove debris in between the floor installation. Use a vacuum cleaner as well at least once a week to remove dirt that can’t be removed by regular sweeping.
  2. Remove any liquid spills on the floor ASAP. Even water can be your floor’s worst enemy. But don’t just wipe it off with anything. Use only soft cotton towels to absorb the liquid fast. Just tap off the water and never wipe through spreading the towel on the floor. The liquid spill might just ruin more of the floor if you do that. Dry the spill as soon as possible using a dry vacuum.
  3. Protect traffic areas on the wood floor through putting down carpet runners. This can be a big investment. But having a good protection for your floor will prove a great saving in the long run. Aside from protecting your floor, the carpet can also give an elegant appeal to your floor. As an additional protection, you can place floor mats at every entrance to the wood floor room. The floor mat will help remove some dirt on the shoes before anyone enters the room.
  4. Avoid walking on the wood floor with high heels or heavy shoes. Your floor surely costs more than the price of your high heels or heavy shoes. But if you can’t avoid this, just step on the carpet runners or step lightly.
  5. Never ever drag heavy furniture across the wood floor. This might cause irreparable marks on the floor. Instead, you can use a gliding furniture pad or just ask for some help to carry the furniture.
  6. Apply floor wax or a similar beautifying and protecting agent on the floor. Do this at least twice a month to preserve the beauty and elegance of your wood flooring.

Just follow these tips and you can surely help your wood floor to last longer. If you can’t do this, you may hire a professional to do the cleaning for you. Even if you don’t own wood flooring, you still need to provide proper cleaning and maintenance for your home flooring. Be it tile flooring or laminate flooring, proper care will ensure it lasts for a long time.
