Among all the things that involve the architecture of your house, probably the wall demands more brainstorming. Being the main fixture that protects everything else inside, including the occupants, the general idea is to make one that is durable and solid. In fact, a house can never become one until it has walls that protect the owner's property and privacy. What if you think that a glass wall would suit your house? What advantages are there in installing one? Unless you know what this can offer you, then you will probably just settle with the ordinary concrete or wood types.

Having a glass shelf would be easy to decide on. A wall made of glass, however, is entirely different. Here are some tips about how to decide if you want a glass wall.

  • If you have a great view outside, then do not deprive yourself of it. A real and living picture is a much better amusement than some oil paintings. A view of a white beachfront or of snow-capped mountains is certainly nature's artwork worth watching. You can only get that with a wall made of glass.
  • Let the sun shine in. Any room that is deprived some time with sunlight tends to have a glum ambiance. No artificial light can take the sun's place in that regard. So, if your house is located in a place with an abundance of sunlight, having a wall that would let the sunshine inside your house is a great idea. A glass brick wall may be fine but one that does not diffuse the sunlight is even better.
  • One downside of having a wall made of glass is that it can affect some of your privacy. While you can have a good view of the outside, anyone out there can also take a longer look at what is inside. However, installing curtains or panels can easily solve that.
  • Of course, you have to make sure that the wall matches your house's architecture. Otherwise, even the most sophisticated one will look bad. A house with an 18th century design certainly does not need this type of wall. One with modern architecture, especially when it has steel and glass floor too, will probably do.
  • Walls made of glass are quite sensitive to extremely loud noises. They tend to shudder and even break. If you have to put on your audio systems to eardrum busting volumes, consider your walls first as well as those made of the same material such as a glass bracket.

Just like any other fixture or part of your house's design, a glass wall has its advantages and disadvantages. It does require a little wisdom in deciding on what type of wall you should have. With the tips above and some professional help, decision-making can be less puzzling.
