How To Decorate a Fireplace Mantle for Summer

Few things can compare to the comfort provided by the warmth of a fireplace. Its mantle can be considered one of the most ideal backdrops in any home setting for special holidays. Frequently used to hang Christmas stockings on or set up a whole lighted up holiday village, it evokes warm feelings of being home. Whatever the season, the fireplace continues to be the perfect spot  for friends and family to gather and enjoy each other’s company. More than just to provide fire, decorating your fireplace mantle can do wonders in enhancing the look of the whole room. During the hot summer months when it is hardly put to use, you can still decorate your fireplace mantle and keep it looking as great as it should. Here are some suggestions on how to do that:

  • The first thing that comes to mind at the advent of summer is fun at the beach. You can use this as a motif to decorate your fireplace mantle. While enjoying the sun and sea, you could start collecting colorful shells and stones and use them to embellish your mantle. Place them in glass bowls or ornamental trays.  Create a beach scenery of your own with miniature beach houses and other memorabilia you may have picked up along the way. Set them on felt paper the color of sand to give it the total look.
  • Photographs of family and friends set amidst a setting of greens are another way to go when decorating a fireplace mantle during summer. Pictures taken at the beach or any other places where you spent past summers would look really nice and bring back those warm memories. Little pots of greenery or foliage arrangements complement the framed photographs and create a charming look.
  • Candles add a touch of elegance to any area of the home. Your fireplace mantle would certainly benefit to the beauty they can provide. Candle holders in unique shapes and designs can hold aromatic, long-burning candles. Align them on your mantle in graduating heights and light them up on warm summer nights. Prepare little pails in summer pastel colors and half-fill them with sand. Set white votive candles on them. They can create a summer look not only on your fireplace mantle, but on the entire room too.
  • Place a scarf over your fireplace mantle. A scarf made of lace that drapes over your mantle gives it a classy look. You could put other ornaments on top of the scarf to enhance it a bit more. Keep it simple depending on the design of your scarf. Your framed summer photographs would also look great on top of your mantle scarf.

Remember to clean up your fireplace thoroughly before beginning to do your decorating.  Make your fireplace mantle a setting for all your creative ideas no matter what time of the year it is. Though it may not be used for the purpose it was made for, a glowing warm fire, it should not be taken for granted. It could look quite unattractive when left neglected during the summer, so keep it looking good by dressing it up. You’ll be surprised at how much it can improve on the appearance of your living area.
