Finding a mop for woods floors can be done the old fashioned way of going the store and researching on your own. Another possibility would be to contact whoever installed the floor or contact a flooring installer and ask them for advice on which mops they would recommend. A third option is to do the research online using the Internet.  One problem with the Internet is that there are so many suggestions that it is hard to know which one is best.

Hardwood floors should be cleaned with the proper mop for the best results. Even though they are often called hardwood they can be damaged by improper care.  Depending on the top finish, some can be easily scratched.

Using a micro fiber floor mop provides a clean floor without damaging the wood.  Water is generally not good for cleaning hardwood and therefore cotton mops which would be used with water and cleaning solutions are not recommended. The other problem with cotton mops and soap and water is that often the floor is left with streaking or extra rinsing is required to prevent streaks.  In any case, water is not good for the hardwood.

The micro fiber mops have enough abrasion to clean and yet not cause damage to the wood floor. A micro fiber mop can also be used with a variety of spray cleaners. The cleaners should be used sparingly. Some are best used by spraying directly on the mop head.

Some have used steam mops but the results are mixed.  It depends on the age of the floor, the finish and the type of wood in many cases. But steam mops use water at high pressure and this can be damaging to the wood floor especially at the seams.

Wood floors do not require mopping very frequently.  Cleaning most dust and dirt can be accomplished with the vacuum cleaner.  Spot cleaning for spills can be done as needed.  Mopping the floor can be done once a week or every other week depending on the traffic in the room.

Finding a floor mop for wood floors is more than looking for a mop, but rather looking for a mop that can be used without damaging the floors.  There are many mops available but the one chosen should be correct for the floors to be mopped.  The micro fiber mop is the least harmful for hardwood.  Using with recommended cleaners should provide a clean floor with lasting results.
