Are you looking for a fun way to get your kids into the bathtub? Or maybe you just want to dress up your guest bath. Consider spending a few moments to fold a towel elephant and you will create a fun and interesting addition to your standard bathroom décor.

  1. Start with the bath towel flat on the bed. It’s easiest to create the elephant on a bed because you need a flat surface and the floor requires too much bending. If your bathroom counter is longer than the bath towel you can use it as a work surface as well.
  2. Fold each short end. Take about six inches of the end and fold it toward the center of the towel. Then repeat the fold. Do this with both short ends.
  3. Roll the long ends toward the middle. Start with the left long side and roll it toward the middle of the towel. Repeat with the right side. You should end up with two rolled tubes like a scroll.
  4. Turn the scroll over then fold in half. You want the rolls to be visible as you stand the towel on its ends. You should have what looks like four legs of the elephant. Set this part aside while you make the head of the elephant.
  5. Get the hand towel and lay it flat on the bed. Use the large safety pin to pin the top center of the longer side to the bedspread. You need this to hold the center in place and mark it as the center point.
  6. Roll the sides down. Starting with the top left corner of the towel, tightly roll the side toward the center. Roll on an arc so that the top center where the pin is located will form a point when you finish both sides. Repeat rolling with the right side, starting from the top right corner.
  7. Turn the towel over. The point should still be at the top but the rolls will now be on the underside of the towel.
  8. Unhook the safety pin and roll the pointed end. You no longer need the pin. Roll the pointed end upward to create the elephant’s trunk.
  9. At the top, take the top layer of the towel and pull it down. You are creating the face and ears at this point. Shape the flap and ends to create the look you are going for.
  10. Place the hand towel head onto the elephant legs. Feel free to tip the head for a jaunty look or add a pair of sunglasses to dress up the elephant.

Now that you have folded a simple towel elephant, you are ready to decorate the bathroom. Get the kids involved in this fun project or just create a friendly bathroom for your family and guests.
