It is inevitable; sooner or later you are going to be faced with a mountain of household junk that you no longer need or want. The question remains of what you can do to get rid of all your household junk and the first thing that may pop into your head is to just throw it all out. But not so fast, there are alternatives.
There is a number of ways in which you cannot only clear up your clutter, but also help out someone else in the process; maybe even yourself. Here are some ways for how to lessen the mess:
Have a yard sale: Remember that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Before you simply throw everything away you can always take a weekend and organize a yard sale. This will help you to get rid of some of the clutter and put a few bucks in your pocket at the same time.
Online classifieds: If you are not into people rummaging through your stuff at a yard sale then consider selling some of your junk online via online classifieds sites such as Craigslist. Most of these sites will let you list your items for free and the end result can be some welcomed cash in your bank account.
Go eBaying: Before throwing away some of the things you have lying around, look them up on eBay and see if there is a market for them. You may be surprised at what you find. If you find that some of the clutter you have will sell on eBay then you can open a free account with them and make some extra money.
Donate it: Taking all of your household clutter to your local Goodwill is a noble thing to do and will provide others with things that they may possibly need at a discounted price. As an incentive to you Goodwill will write you a receipt for the estimated amount that your donated items are worth and you can then use that as a tax write off. It is a true win, win situation.
Storage: If you are simply attached to all of your household junk and are not ready to part ways with it you can always store it. You can choose to rent a truck and move it to a storage facility near you or you can use a portable storage unit company that will drop off a portable storage unit to you and pick it up when it is full. These are a great alternative to making you rush around trying to find time and friends for the whole traditional storage process. With a portable self storage unit you can take as much time as you need to so you can decide what you can and cannot part with.
If all else fails you can simply throw all your stuff to the curb with a big sign that says "free" and the rest will take care of itself. But before you do that you should try one of these methods to help you get rid of your household junk.
