A great addition to any room in the house or garage is a Bulletin Board Cabinet. It’s a great way to be able to leave messages or pin up important things and still have storage space. This is a very easy project. I will walk you through step by step how to make your bulletin board cabinet.

Figure out which cabinet or cabinets you would like to use for this project, and measure the size of the door. Or you may prefer putting your bulletin board on the side of your cabinet, if this is the case, measure the side.  Make sure to write down your measurements.

Next you need to go shopping at a home and garden or a craft store. You're going to purchase cork board the size of your measurements, if they do not have it already cut to your desired size, most stores will cut it for you. If the store won't cut it, just buy the closest size you can find that is bigger than your measurements, and you can cut it at home with an X-acto knife. You will also need wood screws to attach your cork board to your cabinet, or you may use an adhesive such as wood glue.  You can also buy your thumb tacks for your bulletin board. If you decide to decorate or trim your bulletin board to match the rest of your decor, now is the time to pick up the items you want to use for decoration.

Now that you have your supplies, you are ready to get started making your bulletin board.

  1. If your cork board is not already cut to size, then measure and mark your measurements onto the cork board, and use a straight edge to draw a line from one mark to the next to insure a nice straight cut.
  2. Lay a large, thick piece of cardboard down on a table or other hard surface.
  3. Now lay your cork board down and carefully cut on your lines.
  4. Start your screws into your cork board about 1 inch in from the edges.
  5. Once you have all of your screws securely started into your cork board, place your cork board in place on the cabinet.
  6. Sink your screws in so that your bulletin board is now snugly attached to your door.
  7. If you are using glue, make a line around the edges about an inch in and then crisscross glue over the board inside of the outer glue border you have already made. Do not use too much glue but enough to insure it will adhere well. Now place the glued side of the cork board firmly on the cabinet, and use C-clamps to hold it in place until the glue has completely dried.

Now that you're done, decorate your new bulletin board however you like, and stick your thumbtacks into the cork board so they are ready. Now enjoy your new cabinet bulletin board and feel good about a project well done.
