Having a wide lawn or garden area in front of your house makes it more inviting. However, you may scare away some people if your garden is brown and not green. If you are having a hard time making your lawn green, you must be doing something wrong. There are some tips and tricks that you can do to achieve that lush green look that you see in landscaping magazines and in movies.
Here are some tips and tricks that will make your neighbors think that grass is indeed greener on your side:
- Get rid of weeds. Who wants a garden filled with weeds? In keeping your grass green, you must remember to kill the weeds that get the nutrients meant for your grass. Weeds are nasty and not getting rid of them will definitely ruin your garden. Purchase some weed killer from your local gardening store and spray the solution to your entire garden. Read the instructions on the bottle before you do this. The weed killer will help prevent weeds from growing in your garden. They say that the best season to kill weeds is during Autumn.
- Help the grass produce food. As you know, grass needs sunlight, water and nutrients. They also need sugar. Plants produce sugar by themselves. To help keep them green, you can help them through the process. Get your fertilizer and mix four pounds of Epsom salt and about a pound of confectioner’s sugar to it. Spread this around the garden every six months. This should make the grass greener.
- Mow the lawn. Everyone knows that mowing is essential to keeping a beautiful lawn. What most people don’t know is that there is a designated time when you have to mow so that the grass will remain green. First off, you need to use a lawn mower with a very sharp blade. This will actually cut the grass whereas having a dull blade will tear the grass. Remember to mow the grass at nighttime. Mowing during the daytime will cause the cut portion of the grass to turn brown as the heat of the sun dries it up.
- Water the grass. Watering the grass will help it grow and keep it green. There is a formula that you can use to improve the condition of your grass. Mix a can of beer, one cup of kid’s shampoo, half and half of molasses and hot water and a few teaspoons of ammonia. Put this mixture inside a spray bottle and spray it over your lawn. This will act as the fertilizer for your grass. Spray this over your whole garden once a month and you will surely have a greener garden. Note that the shampoo can make your lawn a bit slippery so be careful!
These are some of the tips and tricks that you can use in order for you to have a greener grass on your lawn. If you follow all of these tips, you will surely have a garden that will be the envy of your entire neighborhood.
